An Interview With FIYAH

An Interview With FIYAH

Fire or FIYAH?

Taylor Rivett from Australia interviewed me about the brand yesterday. Check out her blog here.

Yes, we all love Tiffany & Co and Swarovski Diamonds are on our Christmas Lists, but there is something beautiful about the smaller jewellery brands that are making names for themselves. I had the pleasure of interviewing Ben Collinson from Fiyah Jewellery, and this is what he had to say about their company.

What influences your designs?

B: Our designs are influenced by nature, music and the desire to spread positivity. Our bestselling piece, the Adjustable Plume Ring is an adjustable ring in the shape of a feather. A feather has multiple meanings. Amongst other things it represents love, protection from evil and new beginnings. We’ve found through feedback from our customers that the symbol of a feather helps a lot of people with bereavement and grief, so you can see the influence from both nature and the desire to spread positive energy with that piece, for example.

How did you come up with the brand name 'Fiyah'?

B: FIYAH is ‘fire’ spelt differently and in music and fashion culture many people use it as a slang word to describe something as good or trending. I wanted something easily searchable for the brand and you’ll see that if you type FIYAH in on any search engine we will be there on the first page.

Do you have a target audience in mind when you create different pieces?

B: Our target audience is very broad for all pieces, as there is a huge market for jewellery and there is a wide variety in the personalities of people that buy it. We design to cater for anyone that is into fashion or positivity. There are some FIYAH pieces for which our target audience may be narrower for. One of our latest pieces, The Solar Ring is inspired by the solar system and comes with options of rubies or sapphires that represent the planets and stars. So this ring is targeted at people who have an interest in precious stones, science in general and less broadly the solar system.

Do you have a signature style that you like to incorporate into your pieces?

B: Our signature style is modern, bold and elegant. The brand is just over one year old so still developing and we like to experiment and try out fresh ideas when we make new pieces. All of the latest adjustable rings have FIYAH engraved on the inside.

I adore the 'Cocoon Ring' made from 100% Sterling silver. What was the inspiration behind this piece?

B: I’m glad you like the Cocoon Ring, this is a piece I like to wear myself because it is very comfortable and stylish. The inspiration for the design was the shape of a wave but when we produced it I felt that it enveloped the finger nicely and cocoon is another way of saying this with more of a connotation with nature. Most of pieces are made with sterling silver and the ones that aren’t are made with 9ct gold. We only use precious metals.

We all know what will be on my Christmas List this year.....
Until next time,
Taylor x
